While The Ring earned millions at the box office and amassed legions of fans, few people realize the film is actually based on a series of novels. The first novel, Ring, was published in 1991. It then received five sequels–and one of them is finally getting a new lease on life after going out of print years ago. The paperback version of S is now up for preorder, with a release date scheduled for October 29.

S (Paperback)

$15

This new edition of S features an updated cover design, yet it tells the same haunting tale as the original. Set three decades after the film, it follows image processing specialist Takanori Ando. His boss hands him a USB drive to analyze–and what he finds on the drive is a highly disturbing video that couldn’t have been faked. However, every time he views the footage it changes, leading him down a rabbit hole to discover the video’s true purpose.

If you’re a fan of The Ring, S is an easy recommendation–though any horror fan will likely find the novel to be a nice addition to their bookcase. Amazon offers a preorder price guarantee when reserving a copy of S, so if any discounts are made between now and its release, you’re entitled to the lowest price.

Plenty of other books from The Ring series are on sale right now, including the original Ring and its sequels Spiral and Loop. The fourth book, Birthday, is also available on Amazon for $14. Most fans recommend reading these in order, so consider burning through these first four novels (each one is less than 300 pages) before S arrives in time for Halloween.

To complete your Ring collection, check out the $30 price cut on The Ring Collection (4K UHD). This gets you 4K formats of The Ring, The Ring Two, and Rings, plus heaps of bonus features and deleted scenes. There’s also a gorgeous The Ring 4K UHD Steelbook up for preorder ahead of its October 15 release. If you don’t mind missing out on the steelbook, The Ring 4K UHD is also up for preorder for just $25.
