Guy Beahm aka Dr Disrespect, a streamer with 4.7 million subscribers on YouTube, has had his channel demonetized by the platform. This is the latest fallout from the revelation that Dr Disrespect’s 2020 Twitch suspension was due to inappropriate messages that he sent to a minor through Twitch’s Whispers feature.

A YouTube spokesperson released the following statement to IGN that confirmed the company’s decision: “We have suspended Dr Disrespect’s channel from the YouTube Partner Program following serious allegations against the creator. This action means the channel is no longer able to monetize on YouTube.”

Prior to this, Turtle Beach ended its partnership with Dr Disrespect, who was also kicked out of Midnight Society, a gaming studio that he co-founded in 2021. Despite initially denying the reports that he had done anything wrong, Dr Disrespect subsequently admitted to messaging a minor. However, the streamer stressed that he did nothing illegal.

“Were there Twitch Whisper messages with an individual minor back in 2017? The answer is yes,” Dr Disrespect wrote on X. “Were there real intentions behind these messages, the answer is absolutely not. These were casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I never even met the individual.”

Although Dr Disrespect still has a very sizable number of subscribers on YouTube, his inability to use the platform to make money may force him to seek a new streaming home, if he can find one that’s willing to take him on despite the ongoing controversy.
